Continuing Professional Development

Below are my continuing professional development activities from the last few years.

Offshore Technology Conference, May 2014:

As “the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection”, the OTC is one of Houston’s biggest events for the oil & gas industry. I spent an entire day just in the exhibit hall, talking to company representatives about their products and services. It was a great opportunity to see all kinds of equipment first-hand and hands-on: I saw ball valves, gate valves, and butterfly valves from the inside out, looked at the newest frac trees, and even donned a hardhat to climb up to the operator’s cabin on a top drive rig. I asked specialists about the differences between seals and packings, learned about plastics, alloys, and ceramics, felt the various drill bit buttons for drilling into different types of formations, and learned about drilling fluids and muds.
